Phoenix Record Nine Top Ten Finishes in Invitational

Birmingham, Ala.- The Phoenix traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the KMS Invitational, where a new school record was set in the 3000 meter dash by Sasha Petrova.

KMS Field:

Josiah Scott was able to help the Phoenix aquire points by placing 7th in the Men Weight throw with a distance of 15.38 meters. Scott was also able to place tenth in the Men's shot put with a distance of 13.40 meters. Kalea Barnett was also able to place in the Top 10 as she placed 9th in the Women's Shot Put with a distance of 12.40 meters.

KMS Track:

Maria Bangala dominated in the Women's 400 meter dash by placing 5th for the Phoenix with a time of 58.62. Tyler Williams was able to pull off an amazing 2nd place finish in the Men's 60 yard dash with a time of 6.81 seconds. Willaims continued to help the Phoenix as he placed 4th in the Men's 200 meter dash with a time of 21.68.

Sasha Petrova placed 8th in the Women's 3000 meter run with a time of 11:03.38, which was just enough to break Cumberland's previous school record. Denis Kiplagat and Joel Barlow was able to place 5th and 6th for the Phoenix in the Men's 3000 meter dash by recording times of 8:48.34 and 8:55.93.

The Phoenix will be competing next in the JDL Fast Track on Friday, February 7th in Winston-Salem NC.
