MARION, Ind.--Cumberland track and field had three qualify for finals events as the women’s 4x100m Relay team set a new school-record and Jason Bowers and Praise Idamadudu post top qualifying times to move on. 

The day started with a new school-record in the women’s 4x100m Relay as the Phoenix qualified for the finals. The team of Doris Mensah, Alana Mack, Blessing Samuel, and Praise Idamadudu finished with the second-best time of the four heats at 45.56 seconds and will run in the finals at 12:40 p.m. on Friday.

Jason Bowers followed that performance with the top qualifying time in the 1500m at 3:52.66. Bowers will seek his second national title also on Friday at 1:10 p.m.

Idamadudu followed her school-record with the relay team with a first place finish in the 200m prelims. She slightly edged out Denai Wilson from Florida Memorial by nine-hundredths of a second at 23.21 seconds. Idamadudu will compete in the finals on Friday at 3:10 p.m.

Blessing Samuel captured an 11th place finish in the long jump at 5.46m. Mack also competed in the event taking 15th place at 5.39m. 

The men’s 4x800m Relay team of Ethan Garcia, Tahmar Upshaw, Luke Freeman, and Joel Forbes finished in 26th with a time of 8:10.06.

Sophiat Omizi competed in the women’s hammer throw finals today taking 26th place with a mark of 46.82m.

The men’s 4x100m Relay team of Priest Kier, Derrick Redmond, Logan Istre, and Akpan Nsikak took 32nd in the prelims with a time of 41.67 seconds.

The Phoenix will continue tomorrow with eight events on the schedule for Cumberland with three finals events.
